FAQ
The questions everyone asks
Honest answers about cost, timing, privacy and what it is like to become an Angel Wigs client.
How much does a custom suction wig cost?
Every Angel Wig is individually made - moulded to your scalp, with real human hair matched to your colour and texture - so pricing is quoted personally at your consultation. Our clients are honest that it is an investment; as Margaret, one of them, puts it: 'Expensive? Yes! But for comfort, security, peace of mind and adaptability, I would recommend a suction base wig to anyone.' Funding can help significantly: the Victorian Government SWEP subsidy, grants of up to $6,000 for children through Variety, AAAF's Grant A Wig, and some health insurance extras. We walk you through all of it, and there is never any obligation.
How long does it take to get my wig?
Approximately 4 months from the day your order is placed. Your scalp is 3D scanned and moulded, the right human hair is sourced and matched, and the piece is crafted by hand - it cannot be rushed. When it arrives, it is cut and styled on you, for you. If you need something in the meantime and are going through cancer treatment, the Peter MacCallum Headwear and Wig Library in Melbourne lends wigs and headwear for free.
What happens at a consultation?
A quiet, private conversation - by appointment only, completely confidential and without obligation. Angela talks with you about your hair loss, your lifestyle and what you want from your hair, answers everything you are wondering about, and if you decide to go ahead, takes measurements and discusses colour and style matching. Many clients arrive anxious after years of hiding; you will be in gentle hands.
I am interstate - can I still become a client?
Absolutely. Clients fly in to Angela from all over Australia, and consultations are planned around your trip so you get everything done in as few visits as possible. If you would prefer someone closer to home, Angela can also refer you to a trusted specialist in the worldwide Freedom Wigs network. Call 1300 137 723 and we will work out the best plan for you.
How is a suction wig different from a normal wig?
A suction wig is made from a 3D scan of your scalp and moulded precisely to it, so it holds on securely with no tapes, no glues and no adhesives - through swimming, sport, wind, dancing and everything else. Real human hair is implanted into soft, flesh-like scalp material, giving a natural hairline and parting that stands up to close inspection. You style it, wash it and part it like your own hair.
Will it really stay on when I swim?
Yes - this is what our clients love most. They swim laps, surf, bodyboard, water ski and parasail in their wigs. One client was dumped off a jet ski in Fiji and surfaced with her hair firmly in place. You can read their stories, in their own words, on our Gallery & Stories page.
How do I look after it?
Treat it like your own hair. Wash it every 7 to 10 days with gentle, conditioning products (the salon stocks the ones that suit it best), and you can add foil highlights, body or curl to achieve your preferred style. With proper care the life expectancy is 2 to 3 years, and your wig is guaranteed against defective workmanship for 6 months after delivery.
Do you make wigs for men?
Yes. Angela makes natural-looking hair solutions for men with pattern baldness and other hair loss, custom matched to your colour, texture and style. Consultations are just as private and judgement-free.
Can you help with the subsidy paperwork?
Yes. For the Victorian Government SWEP wig subsidy we can prepare the quote and lodge the application with SWEP on your behalf, and we can prepare quotes for Variety and AAAF grant applications too. Important: apply before you buy - SWEP does not reimburse retrospectively. Everything is explained on our Subsidies & Support page.
Is my privacy protected?
Completely. Consultations are one-on-one and by appointment, your enquiry is never shared, and client photographs only ever appear on this site with written permission. Hair loss is personal - how we handle it is too.
